The easiest place to buy homeschool curriculum is online. Most homeschool companies do not have storefronts. It is easiest to research your curriculum prior to purchase then go direct to the company website to purchase.
Outside of curriculum websites there are however many other avenues to purchase parts of unit studies and resources to piece together your own curriculum.
I often thought to myself as throughout my life “where do teachers buy all their resources”. It’s not like you can just waltz on into Target and buy it. Where do they buy those fancy math blocks, or even curriculum! Is there actually a homeschool store you can go to without having to pay for shipping from a bazillion different companies? Buying homeschool resources can be one of the biggest headaches for parents!
Turns out there is actually educational stores and even homeschool stores! The homeschool stores even send you out catalogs that are very dangerous for your bank account. I just felt I should warn you about that!
Rainbow Resource
Rainbow Resource is your ultimate one stop shop for homeschooling. The provide everything you could possibly need from curriculum all the way down to glue and crafting supplies.
I love that you can pick out everything all at once. It really makes it so much less stressful when shopping for homeschool supplies.
Rainbow Resource has been around a long time and offers fantastic support to its customers so you can be assured you will be provided with quality products.
Homeschool Buyers Co-op
The Homeschool Buyers Co-op is a great way to band together with other parents to reduce the cost of homeschooling resources.
How it works is parents join together to place one large order for a program or homeschool resource which offered at a reduced price. This reduced price is only offered for bulk orders hence the benefit of belonging to a buyers co-op.
You can join here.
Amazon
Surprisingly Amazon has a vast amount of homeschooling resources, curriculum and supplies. You can actually buy all those crazy math blocks on Amazon! I don’t know why I am surprised, Amazon has everything these days.
One of the best parts of Amazon for homeschooling resources is a subscription to Audible. This is hands down one of my all time favourite homeschooling resources. Audiobooks are great to listen to while doing quiet work or for kids to listen to instead of watching screens, oh and they are the best for all the running around you do between homeschool co-ops, field trips and meeting up with friends (you know, unsocialised homeschoolers and all…)
Christian Book
Christian homeschool resources and curriculum can be purchased here, often for cheaper than buy directly from the publisher which is such a blessing.
Teachers Pay Teachers
I have used this site many times over the years to pick up homeschooling resources for excellent prices. What I really love about this site is that you are buying direct from other teachers. Teachers and parents put it so much time and effort into creating great resources for their children so it feels good to be able to offer some monetary support to them. Plus I love not having to reinvent the wheel.
Teachers Pay Teachers is great for unit studies and worksheet resources. Everything is downloadable and available instantly which is exactly what I need! My organisational skills need some work!
Etsy
Etsy is the perfect place for finding amazing homeschooling resources like unit studies. I always thought Etsy was just about crafts and cute little baby clothes (primarily my only use of it before homeschooling!)
There are so many amazingly crafted resources that can really liven up your homeschool, and bring in so much joy. Everything on Etsy is always very pretty and happy.
I really love that a lot of the resources come in packs. For example I am just looking at purchasing some preschool work for my four year old and came across a pack of 12 unit themes for preschoolers. PERFECT! It comes with everything I need to be able to create a fun educational experience for my little one with very little effort on my part. I am all about making homeschool as effortless as possible.
There are numerous homeschool buy, swap, sell pages that you can join to sell and buy used curriculum. Not only do they sell curriculum but also a tonne of different resources that are just what homeschoolers need and want.
My favourite homeschool buy swap sell page is a homeschooling one that sells so many children’s picture books and chapter books for super cheap. I will spend maybe $20 and get around 30-40 books. It is the best. I have a dream of having a library in my home one day. It is going to be beautiful. Right now most of them live in my garage and I just rotate them regularly.
If you need ideas of the best book series to get kids hooked on reading go read this post.
Netflix
Okay so not technically homeschool curriculum but it is an amazing homeschooling resource. There are so many educational programs and documentaries that really add so much value to your homeschool.
Netflix is also a God send on those days that you just need to take a break.
YouTube
Yes, again not technically a place to buy resources but it is going to be your BEST resource for homeschooling. You can find out just about anything on YouTube.
I would pay for a premium account to get rid of all the spammy ads but that is just me.
Youtube is not only the best homeschooling resource for your children but it is amazing for you too. There are so many reviews of curriculum and teach ideas that you can really get a good idea of how to do things and what might work or not work for your family. I really love seeing how other parents run their homeschools and set up their curriculum. It helps my brain not feel so overloaded.
For your children, it is a perfect way for them to learn about just about anything. Currently my seven year old is Titanic obsessed. He has been watching so many videos on the Titanic and as a result has become somewhat of an expert. I am having him work on a project to put all the knowledge down on paper.
Once kids get to the older years and your math or physics skills aren’t quite what they used to be, Youtube can come to the rescue to have teachers demonstrate through videos how to do certain calculations etc.
Twinkl
Twinkl is another great place to find printable resources. I have purchased many worksheets from this company and find them to be excellent. It is very reasonably priced for the access you have to so many homeschooling resources.
I still use the handwriting worksheets I purchased 5 years ago. I simply laminated them and have my preschooler use a whiteboard marker that will easily erase. You could also use a clear sheet protector to do this. Totally saves you so much paper and time.
Homeschool Conventions
Oh how I wish they had homeschool conventions here! I can not wait to be stateside to be able to enjoy this amazing resource!!!!
Homeschool conventions are the best place to go if you are a new homeschooler because you can actually hold, touch and flip through curriculum before buying it. The publishers are there to answer questions and give you ideas. The curriculum at these conventions is almost always discounted in some way too.
The conventions offer way more than just books and curriculum though. They are a place to gain inspiration and listen to amazing speakers that reignite your homeschooling fire before the school year starts up again.
